Peter Schmidlin 1947 - 2015
With sadness we announce that Peter Schmidlin, TCB Records founder and director, drummer and concert promoter, died peacefully on 25 May after a short battle with cancer.
The future of TCB Records, also known as The Montreux Jazz Label, will continue thanks to Peter's wife Barbara, who is committed to keeping the legacy of Peter's lifelong passion and commitment to jazz alive. Producing and delivering the highest quality recordings will continue and plans are already afoot for new productions and further releases from the Swiss Radio archives series.
A production representing Peter's last session both as performer and executive producer will be released in September. Titled "Live At The Bird's Eye" it presents the incredible Organ Trio, featuring guitarist Claude Schneider, Pierre-Luc Vallet on the Hammond B3, and Peter Schmidlin holding it all together on drums. Recorded in Basel in 2011, this wonderful session is Peter's parting gift to us all.
As you may know, Peter was not only promoting jazz on an international level, but was also a highly respected drummer who during a 50 year career performed and recorded with many of the greatest jazz musicians from both Europe and America. As a first call drummer of extraordinary repute, his parting leaves a huge void in the contact books of many musicians and agents!
